Hansard Global PLC - Isle of Man-based specialist long-term savings provider - Leonard Polonsky, the company's founder and controlling shareholder, dies in New York on Friday. Polonsky started working in financial services in New York in 1955, forming the Liberty Life Assurance Co Ltd in London in 1970. This later became Hansard Global, which listed on the London Stock Exchange in 2006.
Hansard "will continue to operate as usual," the company says. The Leonard Polonsky Revocable Trust continues to hold Polonsky's shares in Hansard and is now the company's controlling shareholder. According to Hansard's annual report, the foundation and the Polonsky family together held a 49.9% stake in Hansard Global as of June 30 last year, with other substantial shareholders being Aberforth Partners LLP at 14.6% and Premier Miton Group PLC at 5.0%.
