(Alliance News) - Ireland's retail sales volume fell in January while the prices of consumer goods and services are estimated to have grown in the last year, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed on Friday.
The CSO reported that for Ireland the EU harmonised index of consumer prices is estimated to have risen by 1.3% in the 12 months to February 2025, and increased by 0.7% since January this year.
This compares with last month in which HICP inflation in Ireland was 1.7% in the year to January, and an annual increase of 2.5% for the eurozone was recorded over the same period.
The CPI is Ireland's official measure of inflation. These flash estimates are subject to revision when the final HICP results are published next month.
Also, on Friday, the volume of retail sales fell by 0.5% in January, when compared to December last year. Compared to January 2024, retail sales volumes were down 0.3%.
Excluding Motor Trades, retail sales volumes were 1.5% lower than in December, and 0.3% lower on-year.
The value of retail sales was also down, decreasing 0.6% in January and 0.2% annually.
