(Alliance News) - NCC Group PLC on Tuesday said it has extended its contract with ByteDance Ltd's TikTok for another three years.

The Manchester, England-based cybersecurity company in 2023 signed on to provide data security for European users of the Beijing-based online video platform. The scheme is known as Project Clover.

NCC will continue running Project Clover for three more years, "following a highly successful first year of delivery", the firm said. The project covers user data in the European Economic Zone, UK and Switzerland.

NCC shares were up 0.6% at 142.40 pence in London on Tuesday morning.

The Project Clover scheme claims to set a "gold standard" for data security, with around EUR12 billion investment from TikTok expected over the course of ten years.

TikToks's Head of Public Policy for Europe Christine Grahn said NCC had so far provided "an unprecedented level of transparency and independent oversight". NCC Chief Executive Mike Maddison described the project as "NCC Group at its best."

The renewal joins a flurry of headlines around TikTok, which on January 19 was briefly banned in the US. During his first hours in office, President Donald Trump delayed the ban for another 75 days.

The video platform will be removed from US app stores, unless ByteDance agrees to sell it. Trump on Tuesday said Microsoft Corp was in talks to buy the platform.
