(Alliance News) - Ireland's unemployment rate edged lower last month, numbers on Wednesday showed.

According to the Central Statistics Office, the jobless rate eased to 4.3% in September from 4.4% in August. August's figure was revised from 4.3%.

"The seasonally adjusted number of people unemployed was 124,300 in September 2024, compared with 125,300 in August 2024. There was a fall of 3,100 in the seasonally adjusted number of people unemployed in September 2024 when compared with a year earlier," CSO analyst Conor Delves said.

The jobless rate had stood at 4.5% in September of last year, remaining at that level until February of this year, when it improved to 4.1%. It then moved back upwards in successive months to hit 4.7% in July.
