(Alliance News) - Ireland's retail sales volume in August while consumer price inflation may have reached a three-year low, data published by the Central Statistics Office showed on Monday.

The CSO reported that for Ireland the EU harmonised index of consumer prices is estimated to have increased 0.2% on-year September, but to have fallen 0.8% since August.

It is the lowest level of HICP inflation since an annual 0.1% rise in March 2021.

This compares with HICP inflation of 1.1% in Ireland in the 12 months to August 2024 and an annual increase of 2.2% for the eurozone over the same period, the CSO said.

The CPI is Ireland's official measure of inflation. These flash estimates are subject to revision when the final HICP results are published next month.

Also on Monday, the volume of retail sales in August decreased by 1.5% compared with July, and declined 2.5% compared with the same month in 2023.

Motor Trades was the biggest contributor with a 6.0% on-month decline.

The value of retail sales fell by 1.6% in the month and declined by 2.2% annually.
