In preparation for a busy start to 2011, we launched a raft of new features in the New Year aimed at improving investors’ access to information and tools for managing investments. A few months in and we’ve got several more upgrades to tell you about.
Firstly, equity investors can now make the most of our intraday tools. Take a look at Morningstar’s Equities page and you’ll see a list of intraday options under the Daily Performance section, including market risers and fallers, most active shares and individual stocks’ trading volumes.
Secondly, if you invest—or are interested in investing—in funds you can now not only read our analysts' qualitative research reports on the growing number of funds under their coverage, but also read previous reports by clicking Analyst Report Archive on a fund’s qualitative report. This improved transparency means that you can see at a glance how and when our analysts’ views have changed.
Thirdly, rarely a trading day goes by without the term ‘volatility’ being used multiple times these days, so we think you’ll find our new Volatility Chart a useful tool for fund investing. Each Morningstar Fund Report now contains a 1-year daily volatility chart (annualised) under the Chart tab, showing you how the fund’s volatility compares to that of its benchmark. Click here to see an example.
Fourthly, Premium users can make the most of upgraded financials tools that enable you to export company financials such as income statements to Excel. Try it for yourself here. (Please note Premium features are currently only available to existing Hemscott Premium users, but will be available to all subscribing users shortly.)
Fifthly, we’ve also made some changes to our Advisers page so that advisers looking for information specific to their profession can now stay up-to-date on the Morningstar Blog for Advisers as well as sign up for a free trial of Adviser Workstation.
And last but by no means least, we have changed how we deliver our independent research and commentary to you with the launch of monthly e-newsletters catering to specific topics: Stocks Investing, Fund Investing, ETF Investing, CEF Investing and Portfolio Management. Find out more here and sign up for any or all of our e-newsletter at our online Membership Centre.
In addition to these upgrades, as always we continue to streamline our website and make improvements to the overall navigation and appearance, while simultaneously offering you timely and long-standing insights and data to help you make the right investment decisions.
We value your feedback and welcome all comments and ideas.
