Martin Currie Pacific is proposing a number of key changes to its investment strategy, detailed in its annual results. The board believes the benchmark should change to MSCI AC Asia Pacific, with the Japanese exposure fixed at 25%, +/-15% (at 31 March, the Japanese weight in the fund was 30.7%). This will reduce overall Japanese exposure in the fund. As a direct result, manager John Millar will step down to focus on his Japanese mandates And Andrew Graham will take the reins, supported by Paul Danes. These moves make sense to us and we believe shareholders will be well served as a result.
Northern Investors (NRI) is proposing a wind up and orderly realisation of its assets and is putting this to shareholder vote by the end of July. The private equity company has a market cap of around £45 million and currently trades at a discount of more than 18% to NAV.
The offer for SVM UK Active (SVU) by Cyrun is now mandatory, as their shareholding has exceeded 30% of the listed share capital. The discount to NAV has narrowed considerably in the last few weeks, to less than 5%.
