Best and Worst Performers for the Week of May 31 - June 4
The South Korean stock market enjoyed a good week as reports indicated faster than expected economic growth in the first quarter, and tensions with North Korea appear to have eased a bit for the moment. The Canadian and New Zealand dollars had a strong week against the US dollar, as the relatively good fiscal shape of the two countries stands in stark contrast to the public finances of many developed countries. Sugar- and natural gas-following funds bounced back this week after being among the worst performing ETFs last week.

A number of industrial metals topped the list of worst performers this week. The ongoing story of weak global growth, and concerns that China may act more aggressively to slow down an overheating economy were the culprits here. The European banking sector also took a hit in the face of concerns regarding their exposure to the sovereign debt of the peripheral economies.
