Goldman Sachs BRICs: Qual Rating Issued

Goldman Sachs BRICs is a reasonable choice, but investors need to be aware of the risks involved with investing in such a restrictive mandate.

We have published a new Morningstar Qualitative Rating and Research Report for Goldman Sachs Asset Management BRICs Portfolio.

"The fund invests in four of the largest emerging markets: Brazil, Russia, India, and China, which many market participants see as the long-term drivers of global growth. However this comes with risks; emerging markets are risky enough, and an investible universe of just four markets limits the ability of the manager to diversify country risk. There’s also greater concentration at the sector level--the Nov. 2009 portfolio had more than 70% of assets in three sectors: energy, materials, and financials. As a result, volatility is typically higher relative to broader emerging-markets offerings."
