Old Mutual UK Select Smaller Companies is an excellent small-cap fund, but it’s too expensive for our tastes.

We have published a new Morningstar Qualitative Rating and Research Report for Old Mutual UK Select Smaller Companies.

"Since we last spoke to Dan Nickols in mid 2008 the core of his portfolio has remained stable. Nickols still favours the defensive attributes of the aerospace and defence and support services sectors, and has raised his weightings in high conviction ideas like Babcock, Chemring and Connaught. But at the edges, the macro view has shifted a little; the team (headed by former mid-cap manager Ashton Bradbury) is catering for a number of potential outcomes given the current market uncertainty. Nickols has reduced the portfolio’s benchmark-relative risk by bringing

holdings more in line. . . ."
