Ollie Smith: The votes are in and Liz Truss is the new PM. But do the City of London's inhabitants trust her to lead the country through troubling times? Let's go and find out. What do you think of the leadership result? Do you trust Liz Truss?

Interviewee 1: Trust is not something that anybody would give the Conservative politicians of late is it.

Interviewee 2: It's a shock.

OS: A shock?

Interviewee 2: Yeah.

OS: Why?

Interviewee 2: I thought Boris was going to stay in.

Interviewee 3: Of the two I'm pleased it's her.

OS: Why?

Interviewee 3: Because I think the alternative was even less trustworthy.

Interviewee 4: I'm going to give her a chance. I don’t know enough to know whether I trust or not yet. Let's see how she does in the first few weeks.

Interviewee 5: Yes, I do. I hope she follows on, continuing where Boris had left off because I thought he was very good and he shouldn't have been sacked.

Interviewee 6: God no. I think it's going to cause massive problems for Northern Ireland because I believe she said something about trying to reinstate (Ireland's) border, which could cause a lot of problems for Irish farmers.

Interviewee 7: If she does the right thing and reduces energy costs and everything and helps everybody, then great; if not, we're stuck again, aren't we?

Interviewee 8: No, I think, just obviously it's a competition really between the two, so they're both trying to just tell you things that you want to hear.

Interviewee 3: I actually think Liz Truss, as I said at beginning of this discussion, she does flex more, she's got more socialist leanings. And although this is the City, I think many of us do have a social conscience.

OS: What's your impression of UK politics right now?

Interviewee 6: Just seems like it's in absolute tatters, like no one knows who's running it, no one wants to run it. You don't know what you are doing.

Interviewee 8: Don't really have much faith in the government at the moment. It's not showing me much good, since I've been able to vote.

Interviewee 4: It's bit of a mess, isn't it really?

Interviewee 9: It's slightly more bonkers than Australian politics.

OS: Would you say that that's saying something given that context?

Interviewee 9: Yes, very much so.

OS: And finally, do you mind if I ask how do you intend to vote in the next election, if there is one?

Interviewee 8: I've not got clue for next general election I'll probably just, I'll have to seriously look around because I don't think I'll vote who I voted for last time.

OS: And who did you vote for last time? If I may ask?

Interviewee 8: I did vote Conservative.

Interviewee 5: I'm afraid I'm in the Camden Borough. And it's a rotten borough because you can only vote for Labour. Keir Starmer is a waste of time.

OS: Would you ever vote Tory after this?

Interviewee 10: Hell no.

OS: And just finally, did you have a nice holiday?

Interviewee 7: We had a lovely holiday.
