Following the news that James Harries has relinquished his role as fund manager of Newton Global Income and left Newton Investment Management Ltd, we are placing the fund’s Morningstar Analyst Rating Under Review. The fund previously held a Silver rating. James Harries has managed this fund since it was launched in 2005 and has served investors commendably, building an impressive track record. Like most of Newton’s equity funds, this one leverages the firm's thematic approach to investing. However, Harries’ income focus, coupled with his unconventional macro-thinking, has at times caused the fund to deviate from the in-house stance. Nick Clay, who was alternate manager on this fund and lead manager on its Ireland-domiciled mirror, has assumed responsibility for both funds. We will be meeting with Clay in due course to understand his specific plans here.
