Following a recent Morningstar Analyst Ratings meeting, Morningstar has moved Templeton Emerging Markets Investment Trust (TEM) from Under Review to Neutral. The fund’s rating was Under Review following the announcement that Dr Mark Mobius would be stepping down as lead manager. The fund will now be managed on a day-to-day basis by Carlos Hardenberg and Chetan Seghal, with Mobius regularly reviewing the portfolio with them. Both are experienced investors but not with a large-cap global emerging markets fund. In addition the Templeton Emerging Markets investment process is changing, and this fund will now be run on a more diversified and risk-conscious basis than previously. With a restructuring of the relationship between analyst and portfolio managers as well, there is too much change occurring on this fund to warrant a positive rating.
