Not everyone can be a successful fund manager. Thanks to the vast array of choice making smart investment decisions is more difficult than ever; there are more than 3,000 open-end funds and 300 investment trusts on the market.
Good fund managers beat the market – great ones beat the market, outperform fees and give their shareholders positive real returns throughout a market cycle.
It is these managers that Morningstar awards its medal ratings to – and once a year one of these success stories is presented with the Outstanding Fund Manager Award.
The award goes to the fund manager or team that has produced exceptional returns over the longer term with consideration given to tenure, consistency of approach, risk-adjusted returns, and assets under management – identifying a generationally great investor within the retail investment industry.
