Lyxor Plans to Launch Physical ETFs
In September, Lyxor announced that it intends to launch a new lineup of physically-replicated exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to complement its synthetic suite of products. Lyxor's foray into physical replication represents, according to their statements, an attempt to fully address investors' requirements regarding ETF investing.
In its press release, Lyxor stated that the soon-to-be-launched physical replication ETFs would focus on fixed income indices and not likely venture into equity indices anytime soon. As of yet, Lyxor has not disclosed which indices their physical ETFs will track. Depending on the indices chosen, Lyxor's physical ETF lineup may be more susceptible to tracking error than their synthetic counterparts, especially in corporate or high-yield bond markets.
Source Leads the Pack in ETF Listings for September
Source led the way for new ETF launches and listings in September by announcing fourteen new cross listings on the Swiss SIX exchange. In Switzerland, Source bolstered its equity ETF range with twelve ETFs tracking US equity indices and one ETF tracking the MSCI Emerging Markets index. Furthermore, Source listed its most popular volatility ETF, the Nomura Voltage Mid-Term Source ETF (VOLT), which employs a dynamic methodology to provide exposure to equity market volatility. Compared to other volatility ETFs domiciled in Europe, the Source ETF has accumulated the second most assets with €216 million, second only to the Lyxor ETF S&P 500 VIX Futures Enhanced Roll (LVIX) with €222 million.
db X-trackers Expands its Range
In September, db X-trackers launched three new ETFs on the Deutsche Borse. The new ETFs track MTS indices tracking the performance of fixed-rate and zero-coupon Italian government bonds. All three of these ETFs use synthetic replication to track their indices.
